The National Assembly Economic Grand Leap Committee, co-chaired by National Assembly Speaker Jo Jeong-sik and Chey Tae-won, chairperson of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was launched on the 9th.
At the inauguration ceremony held at Sarangjae in the National Assembly on the morning of the day, Speaker Jo said, "I hope the Economic Grand Leap Committee will become a bipartisan national strategy platform that together draws Korea's economic future map and a new industry ecosystem."
Chairperson Chey Tae-won also said, "It would be good if we work to achieve a grand leap," adding, "We will continue to propose forward-looking solutions to create new technology and a new Korea."
The Economic Grand Leap Committee is co-chaired by Speaker Jo and Chairperson Chey, with First Subcommittee Head (industry) Kim Seong-won, Chairperson of the Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee; Second Subcommittee Head (taxes and finance) Jo Seoung-lae, Chairperson of the Finance and Economy Planning Committee; and Third Subcommittee Head (fair trade and capital markets) Yoo Dong-soo, Chairperson of the National Policy Committee. As commissioners, chief executive officers (CEOs) of major corporations such as Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor, LG, Hanwha, Lotte, POSCO, GS, E-MART, CJ, Korean Air Lines, HD Hyundai, Doosan, and HS Hyosung will take part.
The Economic Grand Leap Committee plans to discuss regulatory reform and institutional improvements for corporate growth, tax support for advanced industries, and measures to vitalize the capital market.
The aim is for the National Assembly to actively reflect the industry's proposals and move forward with legislation and institutional improvements. Speaker Jo said, "We will do our best so that the tasks proposed by the business community can lead to effective outcomes in the National Assembly going forward."
