Minister nominee Yong Hye-in for the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family went to the personnel hearing preparation task force office set up at the Korea Youth Work Agency (KYWA) in Seodaemun District, Seoul, on the morning of the 9th.
Asked by reporters for her position on various allegations, nominee Yong boarded the elevator after saying, "I will explain in detail at the hearing."
Since first reporting to the personnel hearing preparation task force office on the 2nd, nominee Yong has repeatedly said she would explain at the hearing regarding issues such as the "dual role controversy over her proportional-representation lawmaker post," the "family party controversy," and the "under-organization allegation."
Remarks nominee Yong made in September 2023, when she served on the National Assembly personnel hearing committee for Minister nominee Kim Haeng of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, have also resurfaced.
At the time, nominee Yong criticized Kim for halting Q&A with reporters on the way to the personnel hearing preparation task force amid multiple allegations. Yong said, "Kim Haeng has even stopped taking questions on the way to work, saying, 'I will explain everything at the personnel hearing,'" and argued, "It can only be interpreted as running away because there is no way to provide an explanation."
The presidential office said the previous day that, in principle, Minister nominees, including Yong, must undergo personnel hearings. The ruling and opposition parties are coordinating a plan to hold Yong's confirmation hearing on the 18th.
