President Lee Jae-myung, on a state visit to France, visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the 8th (local time) and wrote in the guest book, "We will forever remember the dedication and sacrifice of the heroes without names."
After attending the official welcome ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris that day, Lee moved immediately to the wreath-laying site at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Lee then observed a brief moment of silence and laid a wreath.
Regarding this, Lee wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "France joined the Korean War as part of the U.N. forces and stood with us in defending the freedom of the Republic of Korea."
Lee added, "The noble sacrifices of countless heroes became a solid foundation for the freedom and peace we enjoy today," and said, "We will reflect on the meaning of the peace we have built upon it and work to pass on the values of freedom and solidarity to the next generation."
Lee also viewed a Korean War commemorative plaque. There, Lee met Korean War veterans and bereaved family members, took each person's hand, and said, "Thanks to you, the Republic of Korea has developed into a recognized nation," "We can never forget," "We will prove that your uncle's sacrifice was not in vain," and "Please visit sometime."
Meanwhile, Lee moved to the Élysée Palace in Paris for a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron. The meeting is expected to discuss cooperation in advanced industries such as AI, nuclear power, and defense, as well as response measures to the Hormuz situation.
