Floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik of the People Power Party on the 8th said, "The president of a nation is going all in on erasing personal crimes rather than looking after people's livelihoods," adding, "There will be no constitutional amendment under this administration. We will never discuss a constitutional amendment with forces seeking to pursue private interests through a constitutional amendment."
In his policy speech as head of a negotiation bloc at the National Assembly on the morning of the same day, Floor leader Jeong said, "We will protect the people against an era of darkness," and launched a fierce attack on the Lee Jae-myung administration and the ruling party.
In particular, Floor leader Jeong blocked constitutional amendment talks at the source. He judged the government and ruling party's constitutional amendment push to be at the level of "erasing Lee Jae-myung's crimes."
Floor leader Jeong said, "The No. 1 state task for the government and the ruling party right now is the president's erasing of personal crimes," asking, "They clamor day in and day out for dismissal or withdrawal of indictments—doesn't that make this the No. 1 state task?" He went on, "They are also preparing for the possibility that deleting trials fails. In February, they passed a bill to increase the number of Supreme Court justices to 26," adding, "Now the president can appoint 22 Supreme Court justices during the term."
Floor leader Jeong said, "The president even mentioned a constitutional amendment for a multiple-term system. But there has been absolutely no mention of 'not seeking another term' or 'standing trial,'" adding, "Is the intention to extend the term through a constitutional amendment and thereby postpone the trial? Even the constitutional amendment is being used as a tool to erase personal crimes."
Floor leader Jeong said, "There will be no constitutional amendment under this administration," adding, "We will never discuss a constitutional amendment with forces that have clearly committed unconstitutional acts and are seeking private interests through a constitutional amendment."
Floor leader Jeong criticized, "The government and the ruling party are preparing for after the presidency by every possible means—eliminating the president's trials, having the president appoint the judges, delaying the trials, or deleting the charges," adding, "The president of a nation is destroying the rule of law for personal gain."
Floor leader Jeong also harshly criticized recent cabinet reshuffles and policies carried out by President Lee Jae-myung. He said, "Police say that if the supplementary investigation authority is abolished, they may even divert public safety personnel to investigative roles to make up for insufficient investigative capacity," adding, "Investigations will be shoddy, and public safety will become unstable."
He also said, "Just one year after the government was launched, Seoul apartment prices have risen 11%, and jeonse has dried up. In Gangbuk District, among a large complex of 3,830 households, there is only a single jeonse listing," adding, "A triple surge in sales, jeonse, and monthly rent is sweeping across the greater Seoul area like dominoes." Floor leader Jeong said, "(The Lee Jae-myung administration) treated owners of multiple homes like devils. These people are the suppliers in the housing market. Blocking supply makes a surge inevitable."
On single-stock leveraged ETFs, he also criticized, "Investment losses are estimated at 54 trillion to more than 56 trillion won. We need not only a parliamentary investigation but also a special counsel."
