Han Seong-sook, the prime minister, on the 8th called the government's plan for a "second administrative and public institution transfer" a "task of the times that must be done for balanced national development and Korea's sustainable future."
At a Cabinet meeting held at Government Complex Seoul that day, Han said, "Of course, for the institutions subject to the transfer, it will by no means be an easy change," and stated accordingly.
She added, "I firmly believe you will understand that it was a decision for the future of the nation and the people and that you will join us," and said, "The government will work to minimize the difficulties that come with the transfer."
Han said, "I ask the relevant ministries to do their utmost in formulating the implementation plan to be announced within the year, including finalizing the institutions subject to the transfer, and to communicate closely not only with the institutions subject to the transfer but also with local governments."
She added, "In particular, I ask you to pay special attention to ensuring living conditions such as housing and education, with the mindset that my own family is transferring."
Han also urged speeding up efforts to expand the use of artificial intelligence (AI) within the government. Han said, "Frontline public officials have begun using AI in their work," and noted, "It is time to spread the synergy effect to the front lines of administration."
She continued, "I ask you to accelerate building a system in which public officials can freely develop AI, apply it to their work, and share outcomes, and even establish a system under which they can be rewarded," and said, "By 2027, we will do our best to make it a period when the government's work becomes full-fledged through AI."
