President Lee Jae-myung, on a state visit to France, met with global film and video industry figures on the 7th (local time) and said it is an era in which the most local uniqueness becomes the most global competitiveness.
At a film and video roundtable he chaired that day at the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence in southern France, Lee said he hopes to see practical and strategic cooperation measures discussed on how local creativity and the global film and video industry can meet concretely to achieve shared prosperity, and stated accordingly.
He added that the distinct narratives from each of our regions, including K-films and K-dramas, have offered deep resonance and empathy to people around the world, and said this goes beyond the achievements of a specific country to broaden the horizon of world culture and enrich the global film and video ecosystem.
He continued that the synergy that occurs when the originality of the local ecosystem meets the scalability of the global network together can be called the most important system that amplifies all our achievements, and said that when global capital and distribution networks combine with promising local stories, regional production ecosystems gain vitality.
He also said he hopes to build a "solid virtuous-cycle partnership" that in turn leads to the competitiveness of global platforms, and added that the government, as the most reliable partner, will spare no policy and institutional support so that global co-productions and investments in film and video, and global distribution cooperation can proceed more actively.
Attending the roundtable were Vice Chair Lee Mie-kyung of CJ Group; CEO Choi Soo-yeon of Naver; CEO Yoon Sang-hyun of CJ ENM; CEO Choi Joo-hee of Tving; Co-CEO Kang Dae-hyun of Nexon Korea; President Kim Yoon-ji of the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA); Chair Han Sang-jun of the Korean Film Council; and Chair Park Kwang-su of the Busan International Film Festival, among others.
Overseas attendees included Vice President Isabelle Haski, head of global policy strategy at Netflix; Emily Anthonis, head of Europe, Middle East and Africa at the Motion Picture Association of America; and Pierre-Antoine Capton, chair of the board at France's Mediawan.
