President Lee Jae-myung will attend the "1st Lumière Summit" in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France, on the 7th (local time) as co-chair. About 200 participants, including culture ministers and international organization officials from around the world, experts in film and video, and creators such as directors and actors, will take part in the summit, which is called the "Davos Forum of the film industry."
In the opening address that afternoon, the president plans to present an agenda to respond to changes in the film and video industry environment.
The president is also set to proclaim, together with President Macron, the "Global Film and Video Industry Investment Cooperation Initiative," under which the two countries will each invest 500 million euros, about 800 billion won, in the video industry over five years starting in 2027.
Chief spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said, "The president will pay respects to the attendees working for the development of film and the video industry and convey a message to brighten the future of the video industry together through cooperation among attendees with diverse cultural backgrounds."
After the opening address, the president will hold a meeting with Korean directors and actors invited to the Lumière Summit.
The meeting will be attended not only by directors Lee Chang-dong and Jung Ju-ri and actors Sul Kyung-gu, Jeon Do-yeon, and Kim Do-yeon, but also by Vice President Kim Min-young, who oversees Netflix content in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding India).
At the event, the president plans to encourage creators active on the international stage and listen to a range of on-the-ground views, including the secrets behind the success of K-content.
After the meeting, the president will join first lady Kim Hea-kyung for an official luncheon with President Macron and his spouse and Lumière Summit participants.
Following the luncheon, the president will chair a film and video roundtable to hold in-depth discussions on practical cooperation measures that can further enrich the global cultural industry through sustainable coexistence among regional and global players.
Attendees at the roundtable will include leaders from the global video and content industry such as CJ ENM, Naver, Netflix, the Motion Picture Association (MPA), and Mediawan.
The president will also gather with representatives from major studios and platforms leading the global box office and streaming markets, including Netflix, Disney, Sony, and NBCUniversal, to discuss ways to strengthen Korea-U.S. cooperation in the video industry, including the production of K-content.
