President Lee Jae-myung promoted economic performance by posting a report from the Korea Customs Service saying this year's cumulative exports have surpassed last year's annual results to reach a record high.
On the 5th, the president posted on X (formerly Twitter) an article titled "Report from Commissioner Lee Jong-uk of the tariff service."
The tariff service commissioner's report said this year's cumulative exports reached $709.4 billion (about 951 trillion won), surpassing last year's annual exports of $709.3 billion, the previous record. This crossed last year's full-year figure in 248 days, 117 days earlier.
Commissioner Lee said, "In an uncertain trade environment marked by stronger protectionism, a reorganization of global supply chains, and the situation in the Middle East, our exports are maintaining remarkable growth," and noted, "Led by semiconductors, major export items have grown together."
The tariff service commissioner projected that if the solid export trend continues, achieving $1 trillion (about 1,349 trillion won) in annual exports could be possible around early December. So far, only three countries—the United States, China, and Germany—have exported more than $1 trillion annually.
