The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said on the 4th that Korea and China will hold the Agricultural Cooperation Committee for the first time in eight years. The Agricultural Cooperation Committee is a bilateral cooperation channel for exchanging agricultural policies and technologies, and it had been suspended since 2018 due to COVID-19 and the diplomatic environment.
The ministry said the same day that on the 7th it will co-host the Korea-China Agricultural Cooperation Committee with the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. At the meeting, the two countries agreed to hold policy talks to address global food security and the climate change crisis.
Vice Minister Kim Jong-gu of the ministry will visit China from the 5th to the 7th of this month. It is a follow-up measure to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on exports of Korean persimmons, concluded on the occasion of the Korea-China summit in November last year. It also aims to restore the Korea-China agricultural cooperation relationship.
Vice Minister Kim plans to meet Zhang Zili, vice minister of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on smart agricultural technology and livestock quarantine. He also plans to discuss quarantine issues for exporting Korean persimmons within the year with Zhang Baofeng, a department head at the General Administration of Customs.
