One of the Blue House's official YouTube channels, "National Unity, We Need to Talk!", aired its second program on the 2nd since launching. The first program went out on the 19th of last month. Her Eun-a, the secretary for national unity, hosted both programs.
The program that day was held in a "20–80 dialogue" format. Lee Mu-geun, a person in their 20s who serves as a youth aide at the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), met Kim Myung-ja, 82, former KAIST board chair. The aide said about youth issues, "Prices are rising, the ladder to form an asset is disappearing, and with the development of AI, jobs are disappearing." The aide added, "We need to expand public rental dwellings. Housing must be addressed so that, based on the housing ladder, labor income can be saved."
Kim, the former chair, said, "The government must constantly engage in dialogue from the perspective of policy demanders to accurately grasp reality and implement policy," adding, "We really need to create a TF to solve youth issues, staking the pride of the Republic of Korea."
Earlier, the first program featured broadcaster and former restaurant owner Hong Seok-cheon and young part-time worker Park Hyun-woo, who discussed difficulties they experienced on the ground.
So far, the Blue House has run "Blue House Mill" as an official YouTube channel and recently added "National Unity, We Need to Talk!" In terms of listening to young people's voices, it also appears intended to win back votes from the 20s and 30s generation that has been drifting away.
The Democratic Party of Korea also fully revamped its existing YouTube channel to create "Democratic Party TV." When party leader Kim Min-seok appeared on the first broadcast of Democratic Party TV on the 1st, concurrent connections at one point reached 58,000.
In political circles, some say, "The Blue House and the ruling party are seeking to reduce reliance on progressive-leaning YouTube channels and to communicate directly with the public through a 'self-certified YouTube.'"
Until now, Democratic Party lawmakers had been appearing in competition on the YouTube channel "Humility Is Difficult News Factory," run by Kim Ou-joon. But during the party convention period, as Kim Ou-joon took a critical stance toward the pro-Myung faction, distance grew between them.
In this situation, party leader Kim Min-seok appeared on Democratic Party TV and said, "It would be best to carefully select and share, one by one, what the Democratic Party's line is for each day or at each point in time," adding, "I hope this program (Democratic Party TV) becomes the line-setting program." By using the term "line-setting program," Democratic Party TV effectively declared itself a "self-certified YouTube."
Kim also said, "Those who were watching other programs can come and check, 'So this is what the Democratic Party is doing,' and leave." The term "other programs" is being read as an attempt to keep Kim Ou-joon's YouTube channel in check.
