Regarding the government's decision not to reduce the basic deduction for the comprehensive real estate holding tax on nonresident single-home owners and to keep it at 1.2 billion won, the Blue House said, "We will go through a process of gathering public opinion, but the basic policy stance of normalizing prices will not waver."
A senior Blue House official held a briefing on the afternoon of the 1st and said, "Sufficient deliberation is expected to take place in the upcoming National Assembly discussions," while adding the above.
Initially, in the tax reform plan released last month, the government decided to raise the basic deduction for the comprehensive real estate holding tax for single-home owners from 1.2 billion won to 1.4 billion won, while "lowering" it for nonresidents from 1.2 billion won to 900 million won.
After public criticism grew, the government prepared a revised plan to keep the basic deduction at 1.2 billion won for nonresident single-home owners and reviewed and approved it at the Cabinet meeting on the day.
On the controversy over nominee Yong Hye-in of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family retaining a proportional representation seat, the response was, "Shouldn't there be an opportunity during the confirmation hearing to explain the questions and doubts being raised in public?"
