Kim Yong-beom, the Blue House policy chief, said on the 29th, "Based on the hard-won strength of growth, we now need to shift the center of gravity of state affairs."
Deputy Minister Kim wrote on Facebook, a social media platform, the same day, saying, "If the situation has changed, the center of gravity for policy should change as well," and, "Having spent a period when we had to pour all our efforts into rekindling the spark of growth, it is now time to marshal policy efforts so that the results spread faster and more evenly into every corner of people's lives."
Kim said, "The Bank of Korea released its growth outlook of 3.3% for this year and 2.9% for next year," adding, "We were able to confirm once again that the painstakingly revived growth trend is not a temporary rebound but stands on a solid foundation."
He continued, "A growth strategy centered on AI and semiconductors is opening an unprecedented opportunity for a leap forward for Korea, but its benefits do not return to all people at the same pace," adding, "Only by solving the problem of so-called 'K-shaped growth' (deepening polarization) can the fruits of growth reach the lives of more people."
Deputy Minister Kim proposed strengthening policy support in housing, employment, industrial transition, and education to that end.
He said, "We should lower housing burdens so people do not give up their future because of housing, and broaden opportunities for income and career continuity for those who want to work but have not been able to get a chance."
He added, "For those who lose jobs due to industrial transition, we should provide robust support for income and transition until they move to their next job," and, "In the age of artificial intelligence (AI), we should open opportunities for education and training, regardless of age or means, for people who want to learn new knowledge and skills."
