Prime Minister Han Seong-sook visited the Jangwi 14 redevelopment site in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, and said the government would quickly move forward with relocation funds and financial support to speed up follow-up projects.
On the 29th, Prime Minister Han inspected Jangwi 14 with Kim Ei-tak, first vice minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kim Nam-geun, and Seongbuk-gu chief Lee Seung-ro. Earlier, Prime Minister Han received a briefing on the progress of the redevelopment project from the head of the Seongbuk-gu Urban Management Bureau.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Han said, "I think an 18-year delay in the redevelopment project has been far too long," and "We will do our best to make sure residents' desire to live in a better residential environment is realized."
She then directed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) to "work closely with the Seoul city government, because what matters is supplying homes to residents quickly, rather than whether it is a problem of the Seoul city government or MOLIT."
She also mentioned the possibility of improving systems related to reconstruction and redevelopment. Prime Minister Han said, "We plan to review a measure to transfer the authority to designate districts for reconstruction and redevelopment projects with 500 households or fewer to district chiefs." She added, "We will continue to identify factors and difficulties that hinder project promotion and do our best to resolve them quickly."
