A poll released on the 28th found that the positive assessment of President Lee Jae-myung's job performance hit 42%, the lowest since his inauguration. The negative assessment topped 50%, a record high since his inauguration. The Democratic Party of Korea's party support rating also entered the 30% range.
Korea Gallup surveyed 1,001 people aged 18 or older nationwide on the 25th to 27th and found that the positive assessment of President Lee's job performance was 42%. That figure is down 3 percentage points (p) from the previous poll in the third week of Aug. (45%). By contrast, the negative assessment was tallied at 50%, up 5 percentage points from the previous poll (45%).
By party support, 77% of Democratic Party of Korea supporters rated him positively. In contrast, 87% of People Power Party supporters and 58% of independents said President Lee is doing a poor job. By ideological leaning, 68% of progressives rated him positively, while 74% of conservatives rated him negatively. Among moderates, negatives were 49%, positives 41%, and undecided 9%.
By age, negative assessments were dominant except among people in their 40s and 50s. Those in their 60s had the highest negative assessment at 57%, followed by those in their 30s at 56%, those 70 and older at 54%, and those 18 to 29 at 52%. In their 40s and 50s, positive assessments were higher at 56% and 51%, respectively.
Reasons for positive assessments were diplomacy 16%, economy and livelihoods 11%, communication 10%, overall doing well 7%, and real estate policy 7%. Reasons for negative assessments included real estate policy 27%, reducing prosecutorial powers 7%, economy and livelihoods 7%, and morality issues and avoiding one's own trial 7%.
In party support ratings, the Democratic Party was at 39% and the People Power Party at 25%. Compared with the previous poll, the Democratic Party fell by 2 percentage points, and the People Power Party was unchanged. The Democratic Party's support rate dropping into the 30% range is the third time since the launch of the Lee Jae-myung administration. Elsewhere, the Rebuilding Korea Party was 4%, the Reform Party 3%, The Progressive Party 1%, and independents 26%.
This survey was conducted using a CATI method with virtual wireless numbers provided by the three mobile carriers, with interviewers. The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The response rate is 9.5%. For details, refer to the website of the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission.
