Former President Park Geun-hye attended a People Power Party lawmakers' workshop on the 27th and called for unity within the party, saying, "The smaller you are, the more you must rally and unite."
Park said she attended the People Power Party lawmakers' workshop held that afternoon at Sono Calm in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, explaining, "As a minority opposition party, you are waging a tough fight against a giant ruling party, and I thought I should offer words that could be even a little helpful."
She then cited "trust" as the most important value in politics, saying, "There is a saying, mushin bullip (without trust, nothing stands). Without good faith, no organization can endure," and added, "If the nest is broken, the eggs inside cannot remain intact. If you divide yourselves while already struggling against a majority, the outcome of the fight is a foregone conclusion, and there is no enemy as fearsome as internal division."
Park said, "Various opinions can emerge within a party, but you must not hate or negate one another," and urged, "The harder the times, the more you must move forward in complete unity around the leadership."
Park also likened the People Power Party's situation to a butterfly. She said, "For a caterpillar to tear through a narrow, dark cocoon and take flight as a butterfly, it needs a period of desperate struggle," adding, "If you face reality and join forces to work hard, you can win the public's trust, become the majority party, and reclaim power."
She also said, "The economy is not about numbers but about caring for people's lives," urging active engagement on livelihood issues.
As she wrapped up her speech, Park asked, "Can I count on you?" and People Power Party lawmakers responded with a standing ovation.
The People Power Party leadership at the workshop stressed unity. Jang Dong-hyeok, the chair, said, "The regular National Assembly session must be made into one that halts the misrule and tyranny of the Lee Jae-myung administration," adding, "With our eyes only on the people and on Korea, every one of our party's lawmakers must fight as one."
Floor leader Jeong Jeom-sig also said, "The hasty introduction of single-stock leveraged ETFs and the controversy over mobilizing the National Pension Service to prop up stock prices must be fully brought to light through this National Assembly audit," adding, "Let us fight as a proper opposition party. All 109 of us should band together as one and fight alongside the people."
