Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok conveyed to President Lee Jae-myung the view that it would be better not to appoint former People Power Party lawmaker In Yo-han as president of the Korean Red Cross. Former lawmaker In, who was elected as president of the Korean Red Cross, is now awaiting the president's approval process.
Democratic Party chief spokesperson Park Sung-joon said on Aug. 26 that after wrapping up an on-site supreme council meeting in Andong, North Gyeongsang, "Kim met separately with President Lee after the party leadership's dinner at the presidential office the day before (on the 25th)," adding, "At that meeting, he said it would be better not to appoint former lawmaker In as president of the Korean Red Cross."
He went on to explain, "Kim gathered many opinions inside and outside the party regarding the appointment of the Korean Red Cross president." When asked whether there was an answer from President Lee, Park said, "I only conveyed our view."
Former lawmaker In was elected the new president at the Korean Red Cross central committee on June 22. Afterward, he even received approval for employment from the National Assembly's Public Official Ethics Committee. However, to take office officially as president, the approval process of the president, who serves as honorary president of the Korean Red Cross, is required.
