A poll on the 25th showed that support for President Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party of Korea plunged.
According to results released that day from a survey conducted by polling firm Mediatomato on behalf of Newstomato on the 22nd-23rd, 40.0% of respondents positively evaluated President Lee's job performance. That was down 4.2 percentage points from 44.2% two weeks earlier.
Those with a negative view came to 54.9%, up 3.1 percentage points.
By region, the president's approval was highest in Gangwon and Jeju at 54.0%. It was 52.3% in Honam. In Incheon and Gyeonggi it was 41.2%, in Chungcheong 40.7%, in Busan, Ulsan and South Gyeongsang 37.9%, in Seoul 33.4%, and in Daegu and North Gyeongsang 32.6%.
By age group, it was highest among those in their 40s at 50.3%. It was 47.2% among those in their 60s, 46.5% among those in their 50s, 34.6% among those in their 30s, and 32.9% among those 70 and older. Among those in their teens and 20s (18-29), it was 24.2%.
By political leaning, it was 53.7% among progressives, 42.3% among moderates, and 18.9% among conservatives. Negative views predominated among moderates and conservatives.
In party approval ratings, the Democratic Party's support stood at 39.8%. That was down 4.9 percentage points from 44.7% two weeks earlier. Support for the People Power Party was 33.0%, up 2.9 percentage points from 30.1% two weeks earlier.
On revising the Constitution to adopt a four-year, two-term presidency, 53.1% were opposed. Support was 35.4%, and 11.6% said they did not know.
On impeaching Chief Justice Jo Hee-de, 44.9% were in favor and 42.4% were opposed, a similar level.
The survey was conducted over two days on the 22nd-23rd among 1,033 people nationwide aged 18 and older using an automated response system (ARS) to wireless phone calls. The response rate was 2.2%, and the margin of sampling error was ±3.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For details, refer to the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission website.
