People Power Party lawmaker Joo Jin-woo said on the 24th that, in connection with the case in which a body believed to be that of Jang Mi-ran, 37, who went missing in Jeju, was found, "Acting Commissioner General Yoo Jae-seong of the Korean National Police Agency should be dismissed immediately."
Joo said on Facebook that day, "This case is one in which an innocent citizen was sacrificed by a state institution," and stated accordingly.
He added, "The possibility of organized crime and the presence of accomplices must be thoroughly investigated. A grotesque murder case by police," and said, "This was an intentional offender who deliberately let the golden time slip by. Unless all missing-person cases nationwide are reviewed, second and third victims will be inevitable."
Joo also said, "Hold Acting Commissioner General Yoo Jae-seong to account and dismiss him immediately," and, "Prime Minister Han Seong-sook telling authorities to investigate only the Jeju case is a downplaying and a cover-up."
Police Sgt. A, assigned to the Jeju Seobu Police Station, is under investigation on suspicion of falsely closing a report regarding Jang, who went missing in Jeju in May. Jang's family filed another report on the 19th of last month, and starting on the 20th police have been searching the Hallim-eup area, including Hallim Port near the last place Jang was seen.
At about 10:46 a.m. that day, police found a body believed to be Jang in a forest in Hallim-eup, Jeju City.
