Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok said he would evaluate the process of the last party convention and streamline party membership by establishing a task force for evaluating the convention and improving the convention system, and a task force for membership cleanup.
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 24th, leader Kim said, "To address problems raised during the party convention process, such as voting without speeches and investigations without vetting, we will soon set up a task force centered on outside figures to evaluate the convention and improve the convention system."
Regarding opinion polls during the party convention process, Kim also said, "There are recently pointed-out behaviors by some YouTubers for whom obstruction of business by fraudulent means such as manipulating opinion polls and violations of the Political Parties Act are anticipated," adding, "We will begin a party-level legal review."
Kim added, "We have already ordered the preservation of related materials, including various opinion polls, through the secretary-general."
Kim also said, "We will form a membership cleanup task force to sort out dual party membership, ghost members, and involuntary enrollments, and promptly produce results with Supreme Council member Park Sun-won as Director General."
Chief spokesperson Park Sung-joon met with reporters right after the Supreme Council meeting and said, "From the standpoint of energizing the party and allowing a political party to breathe and live, there must not be negative factors," adding, "Opinion polls are also a very important part, so you can see this as setting things right in that regard."
Asked whether this was aimed at the pro-parental faction, chief spokesperson Park said, "Isn't this necessary for the soundness and health of the party," adding, "If measures are needed, of course the party leader should take them." He added, "There was no opposition from other Supreme Council members."
