The Bank of Korea (BOK) said on the 20th that it appointed Kwon Min-su, assistant governor in charge of international finance and cooperation, as the new deputy governor. The BOK deputy governor, a Vice Minister-level post, is appointed by the president upon the governor's recommendation. The term is three years, and the post concurrently serves as an ex officio member of the Monetary Policy Board. Deputy Governor Kwon succeeds Deputy Governor Yu Sang-dae.
Born in 1970, Deputy Governor Kwon graduated from Whimoon High School in Seoul and Yonsei University's business administration department, then received a master's degree in business administration from Yale University in the United States. Kwon joined the Bank of Korea (BOK) in 1995 and worked at the Economic Statistics Department, the Foreign Exchange Operations Department, and the Reserve Management Group. Kwon also has dispatch experience at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Economy and Finance (currently the Ministry of Strategy and Finance). After serving as head of the Reserve Management Group in 2023, Kwon was appointed assistant governor in 2024.
Within the Bank of Korea (BOK), Kwon is regarded as an expert in foreign exchange and international finance. The Bank of Korea (BOK) said, "Since being appointed assistant governor, Kwon has responded proactively to increased volatility in the foreign exchange market and has taken a leading role at international organizations such as the World Bank and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS)."
