The National Assembly Water Forum, led by Han Jeong-ae, secretary-general of the Democratic Party of Korea, will hold a discussion to draw up power and water plans for the Lee Jae-myung administration's "three mega projects." With water resources for industry limited, the idea is that the amount of water to be投入 for the mega projects and ways to secure it need to be discussed in advance.
The National Assembly Water Forum said on the 21st that it will hold a National Assembly discussion on the 31st under the theme "How to supply industrial water for semiconductors for the three mega projects." At the discussion, the forum plans to examine how to secure the necessary water resources for the three mega projects by using power-generation dams and agricultural reservoirs, and to seek legislative support measures.
This discussion will be chaired by Namgung Eun, president of the Korea Society of Ultrapure Water Desalination. The keynote presentation will be given by Kim Ho-eun, director general for water use policy at the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, on "Plans to secure semiconductor industrial water for the three mega projects." Jeong Hye-ryeon, director general for food policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, will present on "Current status of agricultural water and improvement plans."
Participants set to join the discussion and present policy alternatives for securing water resources include Kim Du-il, president of the Korean Society of Water and Wastewater; Kim Sang-woo, head of the Water Resources Policy Support Division at the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC); Kim Sung-Joon, professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Systems Engineering at Konkuk University; Maeng Seung-jin, Commissioner of the Presidential Water Commission; Bae Young-dae, head of water resources planning at K-water; So Seung-young, head of hydro operations at Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP); and Yoo Cheol-sang, president of the Korean Water Resources Association.
Secretary-General Han Jeong-ae said, "For the success of the three mega projects, which will become mega-scale growth engines responsible for South Korea's future, power and water supply plans must be prepared without a hitch," adding, "We will check the amount of water needed for the success of the mega projects and discuss ways to secure insufficient water resources, such as multipurpose use of power-generation dams and agricultural reservoirs."
