President Lee Jae-myung's job approval ticked up from last week, when it hit the lowest level since the inauguration. However, it was tied with disapproval.
According to a poll that Gallup Korea conducted on 1,004 people nationwide ages 18 and older from the 18th to the 20th and released on the 21st, the positive assessment of the president's job performance was 45%.
Compared with the Aug. 2nd-week survey released on the 14th, which marked an all-time low of 44% since the inauguration, the figure rose by 1 percentage point (p).
The negative assessment of the president's job performance was 45%. It was tied with the positive assessment. However, 11% of respondents withheld their opinions.
Reasons for positive assessments included ▲ diplomacy (19%) ▲ economy/people's livelihoods (11%) ▲ overall doing well/communication (7% each).
Respondents with negative views cited real estate policy (28%) as the biggest problem. That was followed by ▲ economy/people's livelihoods (12%) ▲ defense/security/North Korea (7%).
Party support stood at 41% for the Democratic Party of Korea and 25% for the People Power Party. Both parties recorded the same support as in the previous survey.
Support for the Reform Party, the Rebuilding Korea Party, and The Progressive Party was 2% each. The nonpartisan group with no party preference was 26%.
Meanwhile, the survey was conducted through live interviewer phone calls to randomly generated virtual mobile numbers. The margin of error was ±3.1 percentage points at the 95% confidence level, the contact rate was 45.6%, and the response rate was 10.0%.
