The People Power Party urged special prosecutor Lee Tae-han, a nonstanding member of the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission who is investigating the National Election Commission's ballot paper shortage, to conduct a thorough probe.
People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said on the 18th on his Facebook page, "Special prosecutor Lee Tae-han must never forget the roar of the citizens," and emphasized, "Please carry out a thorough investigation that does not yield to outside pressure."
Jang added, "With a resolve to be accountable before history and to safeguard Korea's democracy, the investigation must be conducted thoroughly without yielding to any outside pressure to determine responsibility," and "Restoring suffrage, reforming the election commission, and reforming the electoral system are in the hands of the special prosecutor."
He also noted, "What is clear is that the people will watch this 'people's special prosecutor' to the end," adding, "I, too, will keep tabs on it to the end together with the public."
Chief spokesperson Park Chung-kwon also said in a commentary the same day, "The special prosecutor must conduct a thorough investigation into what went wrong, why, and how, reflecting the aspirations of citizens at Olympic Park and of the public who hope for the restoration of suffrage," adding, "If necessary, even allegations of computer manipulation should be investigated without sanctuary."
He added, "The People Power Party will also watch to the end to see whether the special prosecutor remains unshaken even before those in power and delivers results the public can accept."
