In the Democratic Party of Korea's Aug. 17 national convention Seoul-Gyeonggi tour primary to elect the next leadership, candidate Kim Min-seok led with 46.66% of the rights party members' vote, ahead of Jung Chung-rae at 46.28% and Song Young-gil at 7.05%.
The Democratic Party's Central Election Management Committee announced these tally results in the afternoon after the joint speeches by candidates for party leader and supreme council member at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi. The gap between Kim and Jung is 0.38 percentage point(s).
The rights party members' vote results announced that day reflect the online voting held on the 12th and 13th and the ARS voting held on the 14th and 15th.
Of the 583,638 electors in the Seoul-Gyeonggi region, 317,693 (54.43%) participated. The number of electors (turnout) by region is Seoul 251,762 (54.37%) and Gyeonggi 331,876 (54.48%).
Kim won 63,803 votes in Seoul and 84,442 in Gyeonggi, edging Jung, who received 63,206 in Seoul and 83,832 in Gyeonggi, by 597 and 610 votes, respectively. Song managed 9,880 and 12,530 votes in each region.
After securing the upper hand with a majority in the South Jeolla-Gwangju and North Jeolla primary held the previous day, Kim maintained momentum by narrowly leading Jung again.
Along with the delegates' vote, the Democratic Party will add the public opinion poll, which accounts for 30% of the overall tally, and announce the final results at the 3rd regular national party members' convention to be held tomorrow, the 17th, at the Daejeon Convention Center.
