Lim Mi-ae, a candidate for top member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 16th that she is withdrawing her candidacy. Lim revealed her withdrawal and appealed for candidate Kim Yong to be made a top member.
Lim stated accordingly through a post titled "Please create a leadership that will firmly support the Lee Jae-myung administration," which she uploaded to her Facebook page this afternoon.
The Democratic Party will hold the 3rd regular national party members' convention on the 17th, tomorrow, and announce the results of the leadership election, and Lim decided to step down a day before that.
Lim said, "With today, the voting by dues-paying members ends and only the delegates' vote remains," adding, "I appeal to the delegate comrades who will vote tomorrow. Please choose candidate Kim Yong."
She said, "Protect candidate Seo Mi-hwa's victory, and make candidate Park Sun-won the senior top member to create a leadership that will support party leader Kim Min-seok and President Lee Jae-myung."
Lim said, "(Based on today's voting results of dues-paying members in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions) the election of party leader candidate Kim Min-seok looks certain," adding, "The makeup of the top members is important."
She said, "It must be a leadership that will firmly support the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration," adding, "At least three top members should be able to work in tight coordination with party leader Kim Min-seok."
She said, "Lim Mi-ae's bid in this convention stops here," adding, "Although I am withdrawing my candidacy, I will wholeheartedly assist the new leadership and find my role in helping the Democratic Party grow into a nationwide party."
She said, "To build a winning Democratic Party, thank you to the party member comrades who listened to my call to move toward becoming a nationwide party and sent support and encouragement."
In the party leader and top member vote results announced today for the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions, Lim won 37,032 votes (a vote share of 5.83%), ranking seventh among the eight candidates for top member.
