The first Komdok-suri-B Batch-II high-speed boat, which will guard the front-line Northern Limit Line (NLL), is being delivered to the Navy.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration said on the 14th that it will hold a delivery ceremony for the first Komdok-suri-B Batch-II ship at the HJ Shipbuilding & Construction(097230) Busan Yeongdo Shipyard. It is the result of the next-generation high-speed boat project to replace the aging Chamsuri class.
Following Batch-I, which ran from 2017 to 2022, the Komdok-suri-B Batch-II is a follow-up model with enhanced combat systems and electronic warfare countermeasures. The first ship, which completed launching and sea trials last year, will be delivered to the Navy on this day and then be deployed to the field after force integration procedures.
The first ship integrates the control and launch functions of the 130 mm guided rocket and the 12.7 mm remote weapon station with the ship's combat system. This enables faster and more efficient target detection and engagement than before. Its jamming capability was also strengthened so it can maintain mission performance even under electronic interference.
The procurement agency plans to deliver three follow-on ships to the Navy sequentially within the year. Batch-II is expected to contribute to strengthening coastal readiness, with improved user operability and electronic warfare countermeasures compared to Batch-I.
Choi Sang-deok, head of the ship project department at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, said, "The first Komdok-suri-B Batch-II ship is a vessel with overwhelming on-site response capabilities that the enemy would not dare challenge," and added, "We will complete the construction and delivery of the follow-on ships without delay to establish ironclad coastal readiness in the NLL waters."
