The Democratic Party of Korea Central Election Commission said on the 13th that it voted to file for expulsion of Director General Jung Dal-seong, head of the Cheongcheong Yurangdan (a group supporting Jung Chung-rae), who carried out activities supporting party leader candidate Jung Chung-rae.
The commission said Jung's support activities constituted election fraud (including proxy voting and the use of pickets) under Article 34, Item 13 of Party Regulation No. 4 on the election of party officials.
Following the commission's decision to file for expulsion, the party's Ethics Tribunal plans to look into Jung's alleged election fraud and make a final decision on whether to discipline.
Jung is suspected of engaging in proxy voting on the 12th while campaigning on the streets around Araetjang in Suncheon, Gwangju, South Jeolla Province.
In response, Jung said, "Guiding someone on how to vote and proxy voting are entirely different matters," adding, "The party member in question made their own choice of candidate and cast the ballot directly according to their own intention." He added, "There was absolutely no instance of choosing a particular candidate on someone's behalf or exercising voting rights in their stead."
