Jang Dong-hyeok of the People Power Party on the 12th strongly pushed back against the National Election Commission for dismissing his party's election petition related to the June 3 Seoul mayoral race. Jang said he would hold the commission legally accountable for its decision and signaled forthcoming election litigation.
Jang said on Facebook that day that the National Election Commission had dismissed all election petitions filed by the People Power Party, adding, "They must be held accountable."
The National Election Commission cited as grounds for dismissal that although there were violations of election rules regarding ballot shortages and voting suspensions, it could not be seen that these facts affected the election outcome. Jang criticized this, saying, "They cheated, but it's fine because the ranking didn't change."
Jang noted that he filed the petition to determine the impact on the election results, but said the National Election Commission arbitrarily concluded that there was "no impact." He called this "self-serving and beside the point," and said an investigation by a special counsel and an election lawsuit are unavoidable.
Jang said, "Until the day all the facts are revealed, until the day we reclaim each citizen's vote, we cannot stop this fight," adding, "We will fight to the end with young people and citizens."
