Korea Planning&Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) said on the 11th that former Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources Spokesperson Lee Yong-pil took office as the sixth president.
Lee entered public service by passing the 41st civil service exam and is an industrial and technology policy expert who served as the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) director general for materials convergence industry policy, director general for advanced industry policy, Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination, and Spokesperson.
In his inaugural message, Lee said he would focus on a manufacturing AI transition and innovation in future strategic technologies, building a resilient industrial ecosystem, strengthening capabilities to underpin industrial technology policy, and establishing a research and development (R&D) specialty institution trusted by customers.
Lee said, "We will actively support industry-specific AI models and technology development based on manufacturing data, and dramatically boost productivity and competitiveness in manufacturing," and added, "We will cement the overwhelming lead in strategic industries such as semiconductors, displays, and biotech, and keep expanding challenging R&D." He continued, "We will support securing global leadership in strong industries such as advanced mobility, shipbuilding, and defense, and will carefully address areas directly tied to people's lives, including carbon neutrality, disaster safety, and standards."
Lee said, "We will be a responsible specialty institution that is fair and transparent, strictly upholds principles, and solves problems together from the perspectives of researchers and corporations," and added, "We will devote all capabilities so KEIT can be recognized for mapping out the future of industry and leading national industrial technology innovation."
