Kim Min-seok, a candidate for leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said at a joint campaign rally for the Gangwon and Daegu-North Gyeongsang primaries held at the Hoengseong National Sports Center in Gangwon on the 9th that "there will be no cases of losing a region because of a slip of the tongue, and no cases of missing a region because the central party fails to set its position." Jung Chung-rae said, "Loyalty is the most important," adding, "Already acting as if having become party leader, handing this party post to this person and that post to that person—how can that be right?"
That day, the Democratic Party of Korea held traveling primaries in Gangwon and Daegu-North Gyeongsang to elect the next leadership. The voting results are expected around 7 p.m. So far, the cumulative vote share shows Kim Min-seok slightly ahead with 45.41% (77,351.8 votes) over Jung Chung-rae with 44.57% (75,919.5 votes).
Kim said, "If Kim Min-seok becomes party leader, we will win the Seoul mayoral election and deliver the best outcome in the Gangneung by-election," adding, "I will then ask party members to renew their confidence in me based on that result." Kim also said, "Unavoidably, I criticized (rivals) to establish the party line, but once the line is set, appointments will be made on merit and the party will be united."
Jung said, "In Daejeon, in Daegu, in Busan, Nosamo members are rushing to Honam, pleading under the scorching sun to 'protect Jung Chung-rae in the spirit of Roh Moo-hyun,'" adding, "I have kept faith with President Lee Jae-myung and the party, so I ask party members to protect me." He continued, "Under the Yoon Suk-yeol prosecution dictatorship, I stood right next to Lee Jae-myung as his seatmate and fought against efforts to destroy him, and does that make me anti-Lee?"
Song Young-gil, referring to the June 3 local election results, said, "The most painful thing is not the question of winning or losing by a certain margin, but that a political force that should be eradicated as an insurrectionist force was revived as a competitor equal to the Democratic Party of Korea." He added, "The president also expressed pain and apologized for losing where we absolutely had to win," and said, "By sharing that presidential awareness and preparing and improving together, won't we be able to prepare for victories in the general and presidential elections?"
