The Democratic Party of Korea will hold a touring primary in Gangwon and Daegu–North Gyeongsang on the 9th to elect its next leadership. The vote is expected to be announced around 7 p.m. So far, the cumulative share shows candidate Kim Min-seok with 45.41% (77,351.8 votes), slightly ahead of candidate Jung Chung-rae with 44.57% (75,919.5 votes). Attention is on whether Kim Min-seok will notch consecutive wins following victories in Jeju and Incheon the previous day, or whether Jung Chung-rae will use the day to pull ahead.
The party will hold a joint campaign speech by candidates for party leader and Supreme Council member at Hoengseong National Sports Center in Gangwon at 10 a.m. and at Hotel Inter-Burgo EXCO in Daegu at 4 p.m. The results of the regional dues-paying member vote will be announced around 7 p.m. Earlier, online voting was held in May–June, and from the 7th until 5 p.m. today, automated response (ASR) voting is being conducted. TK is classified as a strategic region along with South Gyeongsang, and 5% is added to the vote count.
In the primary held from the 1st, the regions where candidate Kim won are South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, Ulsan, Jeju and Incheon. Candidate Jung led Kim in Daejeon, Sejong, Busan and South Gyeongsang. After Gangwon and Daegu–North Gyeongsang today, the remaining primaries are Honam on the 15th and Gyeonggi–Seoul on the 16th. The Democratic Party of Korea analyzes that 60% of all dues-paying members live in Honam, Gyeonggi and Seoul, making today's vote significant. The final result will be announced on the 17th.
