President Lee Jae-myung on the 7th designated four townships under the jurisdiction of Andong and Uiseong in North Gyeongsang, where heavy rain damage continued from the 8th to the 24th last month, as special disaster zones.
Chief Presidential Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a written briefing that day that these areas were declared special disaster zones.
Areas declared special disaster zones receive additional national funding for disaster recovery. In addition, for affected residents, the government will provide support such as deferrals of national and local government tax payments and reductions in public utility charges.
Kang, the chief spokesperson, said, "The government plans to finalize a recovery plan as soon as possible and make active efforts so that residents in the affected areas can return to their daily lives quickly."
