Han Byeong-do, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 7th that "People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok is mounting a malicious political offensive, saying he is curious about President Lee Jae-myung's mental world."
Han, the floor leader, said at a floor countermeasures meeting held at the National Assembly this morning that "during a briefing by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the president asked about the legal basis and limits on whether prosecutors can take part in the Joint Investigation Headquarters (Hapsu-bon)."
On the 5th at the Blue House, during a briefing by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Government Legislation, the president said, "I haven't read the revised Criminal Procedure Act, but under the revised Criminal Procedure Act, does it say prosecutors are not allowed to investigate?" In response, Jang criticized him to the effect that he was "curious about the president's mental world."
Han said, "The president's remarks were part of a process to review follow-up measures to prevent harm to the public," adding, "Because of this remark, Jang went so far as to say we should question whether to recognize him as president. It is hard to believe such words came from the mouth of the leader of the main opposition party."
He went on, "The People Power Party's irresponsible agitation is even taking aim at the livelihood economy and the stock market," adding, "Pointing out the side effects of single-stock leveraged products and market volatility is certainly necessary, but bandying about terms like collusion and stock price manipulation without any basis is not policy vetting."
Han also said, "It is said that Jang visited Olympic Park as many as 45 times from the June 3 local elections until the end of July," adding, "While the Democratic Party prepared an immediate parliamentary probe, pushed for a special counsel, and drew up institutional reforms over the botched election management incident to get to the bottom of it and fundamentally reform the National Election Commission, Jang was preoccupied with spreading conspiracy theories about a fraudulent election."
He continued, "This is a stern warning to Jang and the People Power Party. What the public wants is healthy debate and constructive criticism, not crude slurs and false agitation," adding, "Immediately stop trying to stoke public anxiety and turn it into a political asset."
