Police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) launched a joint raid and seizure at HL Mando's Pyeongtaek plant, where a subcontracted worker in their 20s was killed in a crushing accident.
On the 7th, the ministry said the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency and the Gyeonggi Regional Ministry of Employment and Labor Office were conducting a search and seizure at HL Mando's Pyeongtaek plant in Poseung-eup, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, and at the subcontractor's headquarters. It follows the death of a subcontracted worker who was caught in a machine and died at about 12:48 p.m. on the 22nd, while inspecting metal processing equipment at HL Mando's Pyeongtaek plant.
Thirty police officers and labor inspectors were deployed for the raid. Police and the labor ministry plan to secure officials' PCs and other materials to examine whether the employer fulfilled safety rule obligations to prevent crushing accidents during maintenance work.
The ministry said, "We are acutely aware of the severity of crushing accidents that repeatedly occur at manufacturing worksites," and added, "We will strictly investigate whether there were violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act."
