The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on the 6th that 512,393 vehicles across 13 models, including Hyundai Motor Tucson, G80, Avante, and Kia K8, will be recalled for manufacturing defects. The measure follows confirmation of potential fires caused by a malfunction of the forward collision-avoidance assist system, fuel leaks, and overheating of the hybrid controller. Owners of the affected vehicles can receive free repairs, including parts replacement.
Hyundai Motor has the largest number of vehicles subject to recall. A total of 104,781 units across two models, including the Tucson, were found to have a risk of accidents due to malfunctions caused by insufficient software design of the forward collision-avoidance assist system. A total of 127,059 units across five models, including the G80, were found to have a potential fire risk due to fuel leakage caused by improper tightening of nuts in internal engine components. A total of 168,181 units across two models, including the Avante, were found to have a potential fire risk due to overheating of internal components caused by insufficient software design of the hybrid integrated controller.
Kia also was found to have a potential fire risk in 109,237 units across two models, including the K8, due to fuel leakage caused by improper tightening of nuts in internal engine components. A total of 711 Stellantis Jeep Cherokee vehicles was found to have a potential risk of accidents due to loss of power while driving or the vehicle moving while parked because of poor assembly of the powertrain. A total of 2,424 Honda Odyssey vehicles was found to have a potential issue where the rear image may not display due to moisture entering the rearview camera.
Hyundai Motor will carry out recalls for the Tucson on Jan. 30, the G80 on Feb. 12, and the Avante starting on the 13th. Kia will do so on the 12th, Stellantis on Feb. 3, and Honda has been conducting corrective actions since Feb. 4. Whether a vehicle is subject to recall and details of the defect can be checked through the Automobile Recall Center using the vehicle number.
