Seo Beom-su of the People Power Party apologized after making a remark to a fellow lawmaker in front of the victim of the "Busan roundhouse kick case," suggesting "do a roundhouse kick once." Jin Jong-oh, a fellow party lawmaker who chimed in with Seo's remark, also issued an apology.
On the 4th, Seo wrote on Facebook, "I misspoke today before the start of an emergency forum on abolishing the supplemental investigation authority," adding, "I will make no excuses. It was entirely my fault."
He added, "Today's forum was arranged out of an urgent desire to ensure no unfair victims arise from the abolition of the supplemental investigation authority," and "In such a setting, I failed to bear that weight. If the victim permits, I will visit in person and offer an apology."
That day, at a forum on abolishing the supplemental investigation authority hosted by independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, Seo told Jin, "How about a roundhouse kick match." Jin is said to have replied to the effect that he "uses his hands better than his feet." Present at the event was Kim Jin-ju (alias), the victim of the "Busan roundhouse kick case," to explain the side effects of abolishing the supplemental investigation authority.
Jin also said in a statement, "I sincerely apologize to the victim, attendees, and the public who were hurt by my inappropriate remark before the start of the forum," adding, "I will use this incident as a lesson to more deeply understand the victim's pain."
