National tax revenue in the first half (January–June) was counted as 33 trillion won more than the same period last year. The increase was driven by higher income and corporate taxes on the back of a semiconductor boom, and by the security transaction tax following a rise in securities transaction value.
According to the "June 2026 national tax revenue status" released by the Ministry of Finance and Economy on the 31st, first-half national tax revenue was tallied at 223 trillion won, up 17.4% from the same period last year. The growth rate was the highest since 2022 (20.1%). By tax item, income tax, security transaction tax, and corporate tax increased.
Income tax increased by 10.4 trillion won to 75.4 trillion won, and corporate tax rose by 4.3 trillion won to 49.3 trillion won. The security transaction tax was counted at 6.8 trillion won, 5.2 trillion won more.
The Special Tax for Rural Development also came in at 10.1 trillion won, up 6.5 trillion won, due to factors such as increased KOSPI transaction value. The Special Tax for Rural Development is levied at 0.15% of KOSPI transaction value.
Value-added taxes increased by 4.9 trillion won to 44.8 trillion won due to factors such as reduced refunds and higher import values; inheritance and gift tax rose by 1 trillion won to 9.9 trillion won; and the transportation, energy and environment tax increased by 300 billion won to 6.5 trillion won.
