Former President Moon Jae-in said on the 31st that he, together with the public, welcomes the National Assembly's passage of a prosecution reform bill that completes the full separation of investigative and prosecutorial powers, after a Criminal Procedure Act amendment abolishing prosecutors' direct investigative authority and supplementary investigation authority was approved at a plenary session.
Moon wrote on Facebook the same day, "I extend congratulations and thanks to the government and the ruling party, which, despite twists and turns, did not lose direction and devoted all their efforts," adding this.
Moon said, "The Moon Jae-in administration worked hard to lay the groundwork for prosecution reform by adjusting investigative authority between the prosecution and the police, but it was regrettable that it did not see the final fruition," adding, "I am relieved that the reforms we could not fully achieve have at last been completed, and I am deeply moved."
He continued, "Now I ask the government authorities to make thorough preparations for the implementation of the reform legislation," stressing, "I urge meticulous preparations to ensure that, in the course of reform, the public's rights and interests are not infringed and the nation's investigative capacity does not decline."
