The Korea Meteorological Administration said it appears this year's rainy season ended on the 25th in the southern regions and a day later, on the 26th, in the central regions.
On the 27th, the Korea Meteorological Administration said, "As a rule, a definitive announcement on the start and end of the rainy season is made through the 'summer climate characteristics report' released in the first week of September after summer ends," but noted, "Based on analysis so far, the end dates of the rainy season are the 25th for the southern regions and the 26th for the central regions."
This year's rainy season began later than usual. The normal (1991–2020 average) start dates are June 23 for the southern regions and the 25th for the central regions. This year, however, the rainy season started on June 30 in the southern regions and on July 1 in the central regions. That is because the North Pacific high, which brings rainy-season precipitation, moved north late, and in the meantime cold air continued to flow down, preventing the monsoon front from forming properly.
However, the end timing is similar to normal years. The normal end dates are July 24 for the southern regions and July 26 for the central regions. Accordingly, this year's rainy season lasted 26 days in both the southern and central regions. That is 5.4 days shorter than normal in the south and 5.5 days shorter in the central regions.
