President Lee Jae-myung, on a tour of the United States and South America, met Anthropic Chief Executive Officer Dario Amodei in San Francisco on the 24th (local time) and asked for expanded investment in Korea and greater cooperation between corporations.
Lee told Amodei that the Korean government plans to sharply increase related investment to foster AI as a core national industry. He added, "We look forward to Anthropic's special interest, investment and contributions."
Amodei welcomed the Korean government's push to make the AI industry a key policy priority and said there is strong potential for cooperation across various fields.
He said, "Anthropic has very high expectations about working with Korean corporations. Korean memory manufacturers have also invested a lot in Anthropic," adding, "We plan to cooperate in several areas, including data centers."
He added that an MOU has been concluded with the Ministry of Science and ICT on cooperation related to AI security and the cyber industry, expressing expectations for collaboration with Korea.
Starting with the meeting with Amodei, Lee is set to meet in succession with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, among other executives of global AI and semiconductor corporations.
He will then attend the "AI Summit" in San Francisco to discuss implementation plans for the government's three mega projects in AI with business leaders at home and abroad.
Along with CEOs of global big tech corporations, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Naver founder and board chairman Lee Hae-jin are expected to attend.
At the event, Lee plans to announce the "San Fran AI Declaration," outlining his vision to grow Korea into an indispensable key nation in the global AI industry.
