The Blue House said on the 25th that through the "San Francisco AI Summit," held on the occasion of President Lee Jae-myung's visit to the United States, domestic corporations and global big tech agreed to pursue cooperation totaling $950 billion (about 1,391 trillion won) in the semiconductor sector.
Kim Yong-beom, the Blue House policy Deputy Minister, said at a briefing at the San Francisco press center on the 24th (local time) that detailed investment and cooperation plans had been prepared with global partners for each core area of three mega projects (semiconductors, AI data centers, physical AI). Kim said, "It became an opportunity for the government of the Republic of Korea and corporations, and global big tech corporations, to greatly strengthen cooperation to bolster the AI supply chain and create new markets."
In semiconductors, Samsung Electronics and Broadcom signed a memorandum of understanding for foundry (contract manufacturing) cooperation to supply advanced memory semiconductors and produce AI chips worth $200 billion (about 292 trillion won) over the next five years.
SK Group decided to pursue long-term supply cooperation for advanced memory semiconductors totaling $750 billion (about 1,097 trillion won) over the next five years with global big tech corporations including Nvidia.
Deputy Minister Kim said, "We have established a cooperative foundation that encompasses not only semiconductor supply and production, but also joint design of next-generation chips and validation of domestic AI Semiconductor."
In the AI data center field, corporations from both countries will pursue investment cooperation totaling 5 gigawatts (GW) and about 2 million graphics processing units (GPUs) (based on B200).
SK Telecom decided to pursue the construction and expansion of AI data centers of up to 2 GW with Nvidia. Nvidia will support related technology and prioritize the supply of the latest GPU, the Vera Rubin system. SK Telecom will also pursue investment and cooperation with Anthropic on a domestic GW-scale AI data center project.
Naver signed a strategic investment agreement with Nvidia. It plans to build a global AI factory totaling $10 billion by signing an infrastructure supply contract with global alternative asset manager Brookfield.
In physical AI, Hyundai Motor Group decided to jointly build a "robot reference platform," a standardized foundation to develop and validate AI robots, with Nvidia. The plan is to open the platform to universities and startups to support the expansion of the domestic robot ecosystem. Hyundai Motor Group also announced a foundry business plan for Autonomous Driving vehicles with Waymo.
Samsung SDS and Anthropic signed a strategic partnership agreement to jointly develop new AI markets and train professionals.
On the day, President Lee Jae-myung held individual meetings with U.S. big tech corporations' CEOs, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, before attending the "San Francisco AI Summit." At the summit, Lee presented a vision to make the Republic of Korea a global AI production base and a foundation for AI innovation, and to leap forward as a key country in an irreplaceable global AI supply chain.
After the summit, Lee had dinner of beer, burgers, fish and chips, and fried squid at The Ramp restaurant in San Francisco with Jensen Huang, Hock Tan, Microsoft (MS) President Rani Borkar, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun, and Naver Chair Lee Hae-jin.
