As part of measures to stabilize prices, the government will supply eggs at an average of 20 million per week. It also plans to pursue additional imports of mackerel by diversifying import sources.
On the 24th, the government held a task force meeting of ministers for special management of livelihood prices and discussed these matters.
The government said it would import 49.37 million eggs under contracts signed through Aug. 10 and supply them at an average of 20 million per week through early August. Earlier, the government said it would import 230 million eggs from the United States, Thailand and Brazil, and stabilize egg prices by expanding the allocated tariff volumes.
It also plans to diversify import sources by conducting pilot imports from New Zealand and Poland.
It also plans to increase imports of mackerel. The government dispatched a special delegation for mackerel and, through consultations with Norwegian producers and processors, signed a direct-import contract for 2,000 tons of mackerel. Through this, it will run a special discount offering 30%–60% off mackerel retail prices.
