Floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik of the People Power Party and Reform Party leader Lee Jun-seok will hold a luncheon meeting on the 21st.
According to the political arena on the 16th, Floor Leader Jeong and Leader Lee will meet over lunch on the 21st. The meeting was arranged at Floor Leader Jeong's suggestion. Reform Party Floor Leader Cheon Ha-ram and Kim Seung-soo, senior deputy floor leader for operations of the People Power Party, are also expected to join the luncheon.
On this day at the National Assembly, Leader Lee Jun-seok met with reporters and said, "Floor Leader Jeong previously paid a courtesy call on the Reform Party and suggested having a meal once, so it was set up," and added, "Wouldn't we talk about routine matters within the National Assembly?" He continued, "There has been an aspect where exchanges among opposition parties have disappeared due to ruling-opposition confrontation. I think this is an attempt to restore that."
The People Power Party and the Reform Party are highly likely to form a joint front against the administration, using this luncheon meeting as a starting point. In the long term, it could also lead to talks on a merger before the general election.
In a media interview that day, Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik also said that the best timing for a merger with the Reform Party would be "before the general election, when the synergy is greatest."
