Minister Kim Young-hoon of the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) said on the 14th that "the astronomical achievements of artificial intelligence (AI) are the total sum of benefits that our society created together."
The Minister attended a forum titled "A new path of social innovation in step with AI technological innovation" held at Peace & Park in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, the same day, and said, "The astronomical gains corporations have reaped are not the result of corporations' independent innovation alone."
The Minister said, "They were created by the special conditions of the global market, the government's tax benefits and infrastructure support, and the combined sweat of countless primary and subcontracted workers."
He went on, "We must move beyond the binary thinking of 'investment or distribution,'" adding, "Fair distribution is assured reinvestment."
The Minister said, "How is joint growth between primary and subcontractors a socialist idea?" adding, "We need a new social contract for humans that fits the AI era." He continued, "A new social contract is not something the government can unilaterally decide," adding, "The government will serve as a facilitator of dialogue where different voices can meet freely and generate emergent alternatives."
The Minister said, "We will include not only labor and management, but also the views of young people and unorganized workers who have had difficulty making their voices heard, as well as those working in new forms." The Minister added, "We will expand the democracy of the square to the democracy of the workplace and open the door to a great social reform."
