People Power Party lawmaker Lee Jong-bae on the 13th issued a commentary sharply criticizing the Democratic Party's push to fully abolish supplemental investigative authority.
Lee said, "Even though it is most effective in providing relief to crime victims when the police and the prosecution keep each other in check, complement each other, and investigate, the Democratic Party has lost reason out of hatred for the prosecution," adding, "Even though the prosecution's supplemental investigation dramatically uncovered Jang Yun-gi's rape and murder of a high school girl and exposed the police's organized attempt to cover it up, the Democratic Party is indifferent."
He went on, "This is because of the Democratic Party's structural problem that, unless it caters to hard-line supporters, it cannot seize party leadership," adding, "Former Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae, who demands 'shut up and fully abolish supplemental investigative authority,' and former Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, who agrees with him, are clearly showing that, for victory in an internal party election, they do not care what harm the public may suffer."
He said, "By practicing politics only for a segment of hard-line supporters, the Democratic Party is at odds with the public."
