Rep. Park Sung-joon of the Democratic Party of Korea declared a run for supreme council member on the 12th.
At a press conference at the National Assembly press room that day, Park said, "I will defend the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration to the end and lead a victory in the 2028 general election," adding, "Park Sung-joon, the Democratic Party's closer and the strategist who delivers victories for the ruling party, will stand at the forefront."
Park, whose constituency is Seoul Jung-gu·Seongdong-gu B, served as party Spokesperson in the first Lee Jae-myung leadership and is part of the "pro-Lee" faction. In his campaign announcement, Park also emphasized the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration.
Defining the contemporary significance of this party convention as "a turning point for the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration," Park said, "With a change to new leadership, we must be reborn as a ruling party that is capable and delivers results."
Park said, "We must wrap up the special prosecutor bill on prosecutorial reform and fabricated indictments before the convention and, by ending the era of Chief Justice Jo Hee-de, complete judicial reform," adding, "Give your support to me, Park Sung-joon, who has always proven results with skill rather than words."
On the introduction of a youth supreme council member system, which has recently been a point of contention within the Democratic Party's leadership, he said, "The preparatory committee's decision must be accepted immediately."
