It has been confirmed that wage arrears totaling 33.3 billion won occurred at Homeplus Co. The government will pay up to 21 million won per person in substitute payment for unpaid wages to affected workers. For partner companies, it will support emergency operating funds with loans of up to 500 million won per company.
On Oct. 10, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said it held a Homeplus Co.-related joint task force meeting at the Government Sejong Complex to review the damage to workers and partner companies and the status of implementing support measures.
As a result of a full survey of wage arrears conducted through a dedicated task force (TF), the June unpaid wages at Homeplus Co. amounted to 33.3 billion won. Affected workers can receive up to 21 million won per person from the government's substitute payment for unpaid wages.
The government will provide living expense loans of up to 10 million won per person within the range of arrears at an annual interest rate of 1.5% to workers in urgent need of livelihood support. From Mar. 4 last year, when Homeplus Co.'s rehabilitation proceedings began, to the 7th of this month, the performance of living expense loan support was 8,758 cases totaling 39.7 billion won.
In addition, the government will lend emergency operating funds of up to 500 million won per corporations to partner companies. From Mar. 4 last year to the 3rd of this month, financial support for partner companies totaled 7,588 cases amounting to 5.1 trillion won.
