On the 9th, according to the "2025 International Migration Statistics" that the Ministry of Data and Statistics (MODS) released, the number of foreigners who entered the country was 428,000, down 23,000 from the previous year, marking a decline for the second straight year. During the same period, Korean citizen entries also fell by 19,000 to 257,000. Korean citizen entries hit a four-year high last year but turned downward again.
By country, foreign arrivals were highest from Vietnam (98,000), followed by China (94,000) and the United States (23,000), accounting for 50.2% of the total. The Ministry of Data and Statistics (MODS) explained that, for the first time since the statistics began in 2000, Vietnam overtook China.
The Ministry of Data and Statistics (MODS) said, "Recently, stayers for study abroad and general training from Vietnam have been increasing," and noted, "Vietnam has been on an upward trend for the past two years, while China has been declining, leading to a reversal."
By stay status, the share of foreign arrivals was employment (37.4%), study abroad/general training (25.2%), permanent residence/marriage immigration, etc. (13.1%), and short-term (12.6%).
