The Democratic Party of Korea said it "expresses strong regret" over a U.S. Congress report that Korea's government treats U.S. corporations such as Coupang in a discriminatory manner.
On the 4th, Jang Yun-mi, Spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a written briefing, "The report's claim that our government discriminated against Coupang and targeted it for attacks is nothing more than parroting Coupang's one-sided assertions without any objective basis," noting this.
Spokesperson Jang said, "Coupang is seriously distorting the position of the government of the Republic of Korea," adding, "The report relied on Coupang's unilateral claims and unverified materials."
She added, "The government of the Republic of Korea does not discriminate against or improperly pressure specific corporations because of their nationality, and has no reason to do so."
Spokesperson Jang said, "With the public's digital basic rights heavily infringed, it is only natural for the government to strictly pursue corporate accountability and conduct related investigations," adding, "It is the same for the National Assembly to review pending issues in hearings and call for countermeasures."
She then brought up Coupang's personal information leak case. Spokesperson Kang said, "Coupang should not play the victim while irresponsibly staying silent on the grave matter of personal information on 33.79 million people of the Republic of Korea being leaked."
Spokesperson Jang criticized, "Turning the National Assembly's hearing procedures and other rightful duties into a political issue, and claiming that the Lee Jae-myung administration's platform regulation policy is the problem, is close to sophistry," adding, "As a responsible political party, you should feel at least a minimum level of responsibility for resolving the personal information leak affecting our people."
