The government said on the 3rd it will pay wages on behalf of workers whose pay has been delayed by Homeplus Co., up to 21 million won per person. On the same day, the court decided to terminate Homeplus Co.'s rehabilitation proceedings.
The government held a "Homeplus Co.-related task force (TF) meeting" at Government Complex Seoul on the day to discuss support measures for Homeplus Co. workers and partner companies.
The government will pay delayed wages on behalf of workers within the limit and also provide living expense loans at an annual low interest rate of 1.5% within the scope of delayed wages, up to 10 million won per person. For low-income employed workers with incomes at or below 50% of the median income, it will provide livelihood stabilization loans at an annual low interest rate of 1.5%, up to 20 million won.
Workers who lose their jobs due to closures can receive unemployment benefits equal to 60% of their average wage for the three months before separation.
For small and medium-sized partner companies for which Homeplus Co. is a major transaction counterpart, the government will provide a total of 440 billion won in low-interest loans. The 440 billion won consists of 90 billion won in emergency business stabilization funds from the Small Enterprise and Market Service and the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME), and 350 billion won in special guarantees from the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund (KODIT) and the Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KOTEC).
